Teach students to use figurative language effectively in their writing--and let them have a little fun too! I created these challenges when I realized that my students -- who could parrot back definitions and even identify figurative language in their texts -- could not easily use figurative language in their own writing. The challenges, then, are designed to give them practice with the process required to create their own figurative devices which, in turn, will help them better understand it in the texts they read.

♥ I used this resource to make a figurative language Olympics! Every day was a different event, and teams of students competed all week. They're begging to do it again! The instructions were easy to follow, and the alternative activities would meet any need. This is one of the best things I've bought on TpT
♥ These challenges are so helpful in having students take their knowledge of figurative language beyond memorization. I can't rave enough about the writing challenges! Thank you so much!
