Teach students to use figurative language effectively in their writing--and let them have a little fun too!
I created these challenges when I realized that my students -- who could parrot back definitions and even identify figurative language in their texts -- could not easily use figurative language in their own writing. The challenges, then, are designed to give them practice with the process required to create their own figurative devices which, in turn, will help them better understand it in the texts they read.
