Looking for a fun way to teach figurative language? Eight differentiated cryptogram-style activities for personification, pun, simile, metaphor, oxymoron, cliche, alliteration and hyperbole have been included. In each activity, students will attempt to decrypt the definition for the types of figurative language. Each definition activity has been created as a print-and-go option (one page, one type of figurative language). Answer keys have been included for everything.
Each activity can be completed as whole escape room (no locks required), individually, as a supplement to an existing unit, or when individual review one of these types of figurative language may be required. The cryptogram activities could be used as individual, pair or small group activities, as a homework activity or for bonus marks.
Upon completion of the definition activities, a review match-up worksheet has been included, as well as a second worksheet that examines examples of each type of figurative language. A final quiz has also been included.
