Use this Figurative Language Freebie
with any lesson or story that uses figures of speech. In this lesson, students will select 4 specific examples from the text, draw a small illustration of the quote, and explain the meaning of the figurative language used in the quote. Thus, students are digging into the text to analyze the meaning of the figurative language, and they get to draw
. This handout also has an example already done for students to model after.
This sheet can also be used to assess if students know what figurative language is and if they are able to find it in the text because I have had students select lines that did not demonstrate a figure of speech. Then, I knew students needed more practice with identifying personification, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, etc.
