Use this graphic organizer to allow your students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of figurative language. This activity can be used as an introduction to figurative language (simile, metaphor, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and personification) and poetry vocabulary (stanza and line break). It could also be used as an assessment of students applying these terms to poetry.
Students will search through poetry books of your choice and copy poems where they find each of the above vocabulary words. Following this, students will then highlight the evidence in the poem where they have found the example, then explain the meaning of that figurativ language device.
