This is a figurative language unit to teach Elementary students to recognise and use Hyperbole! This is a printable resource for your writing centers.
There are 28 individual task Cards, a poster (anchor chart), a tracking/recoding sheet and answer sheets.
The poster has an illustrated explanation to help children to understand this literary element.
Understanding hyperbole is a huge step to improving reading comprehension and writing.
The task cards also have pictures and offer activities to read, recognise and write examples of hyperbole.
Once a student understands and becomes familiar with figurative language, he/she will be able to include examples in writing tasks successfully and confidently. This knowledge also improves comprehension, making students aware that literal meanings aren't always right.
This is a great unit for ESL students and adults, teaching the usage ideas.
Although there are 28 task cards, you don't need students to complete all, I find they understand quickly and deliberately use hyperbole when speaking to one another. This seems to be one of the "fun" figurative tools for students to understand and remember.
