This bundle includes two activities to help students practice identifying and analyzing hyperboles, a tricky component of figurative language. The first activity includes a definition of hyperbole, examples, and opportunity for guided practice. Students must explain what the given hyperbole means and underline words and phrases that show the exaggeration. An answer key is included. The second portion includes 10 pages of hyperboles for students to illustrate literally and figuratively. They must then write what the meaning of the hyperbole is. Try giving one page to each student and binding them together to make a "Class Hyperbole Book!" Students will love comparing and contrasting the silly, literal pictures with the actual, figurative pictures. A blank page is included for you to write in your own examples, if you wish.
These activities can be used for assessment, as homework, or for in-class work. The easy-to-follow instructions make these great activities to leave with a substitute, if you need.
