These materials are an excellent introduction to 9 common types of figurative language. Students will take notes on the definitions while they watch a short video that provides examples and helps make the vocabulary more memorable and meaningful. You may choose to use a format familiar to students, such as Cornell notes, or utilize the included notes. Two versions of scaffolded notes are included so you can differentiate according to student needs).
Follow up with a quick "pop quiz" that can be used as an entrance or exit task or a quick review later.
This can be broken up and delivered as a warm up activity at the beginning of class, taught as a continuous lesson, and is a great option for a sub day lesson.
