Students will love this hands-on game. Teachers will also love the ability to quickly assess student understanding of figurative language. This 26 page document contains the grade level specific elements of figurative language that students must know in grades 6th through 8th. For instance 6th grade must understand and identify simile, metaphor and analogies. In the eighth grade they must also know idiom, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, personification and alliteration.
Just cut out the headings and cards under each heading, shuffle and have students put the examples under the figurative language technique.
Also included in this document is a list of figurative language examples and a chart for each grade level to write examples on. This is a wonderful "bell work" activity. I would often have several figurative language examples on the board and when students entered the room they knew to take out their sheet and categorize the examples.
