This is a figurative language unit to teach students to use and understand Onomatopoeia! This is a great printable resource for literacy centers.
There are 32 individual task Cards, a poster (or anchor chart), a tracking/recoding sheet and answer sheets. I've used 1 QR Code for Quietube.
Understanding onomatopoeia is a fun step to improving reading comprehension and writing.
The poster has pictures and an explanation to help students identify and use Onomatopoeia when writing.
Once a student understands and becomes familiar with figurative language, he/she will be able to include examples in writing tasks successfully and confidently. This knowledge also improves comprehension, making students aware that literal meanings aren't always right.
The task cards give examples and require students to recognise and use this literary element.
This is a great unit for ESL students and adults, teaching the usage ideas.
Although there are 32 task cards, you don't need students to complete all in the same term; revisit later. I find once students understand onomatopoeia, their awareness and comprehension skills improve and they begin to deliberately use it when writing.
