Have your students travel through figurative language with this passport and graphic organizers! This passport is used to help students understand the different parts of figurative language as well as to practice using them and creating them! All while providing a fun format for them to lear with!

Each time you teach a skill or students learn a skill, they practice their skill in their passport or by using one of the graphic organizers. Once they finish and you know they understand they skill, they get a "sticker" for their passport! The "stickers" can be printed on plain sticker paper and cut out OR just printed on paper and the students glue them in!

When I teach figurative language in my classroom, I teach through picture books! There is a picture book list for each type of figurative language to help introduce and teach the concept. While teaching the concept, we identify the figurative language in the text and write them on an anchor chart or SmartBoard. Students then can choose one of the figurative language pieces from the text to work with on their graphic organizer OR create their own OR find their own in an alternative text!

Passport includes a page and sticker for each of the following:

• Metaphor
• Simile
• Alliteration
• Hyperbole
• Personification
• Onomatopoeia
• Idiom

The graphic organizers include all of the above as well. They allow students to practice writing their own figurative language, identifying figurative language in a text and understanding them.
