As your students become familiar with different types of figurative language, they can begin to employ this device themselves. In addition, having familiarity with a variety of figurative language will help with reading comprehension.
Figurative Language is addressed in Common Core Learning Standards:
L.3.5, L.4.5, L.5.5, L.6.5
Display posters with or without examples. Have students keep the reference sheet in a binder, writing folder, glue it into their notebook or keep it at your writing center.
