Description

Figurative language and poetry should be FUN! Teach and reinforce figurative language with these 4 differentiated cootie catchers. Use the PowerPoint slideshow to teach the terminology and post the anchor charts. Students can use the figurative language terminology mini helper booklet as they play the activities and store the the cootie catchers in the storage pocket included in the set. Students will practice alliteration, hyperbole, idiom, metaphor, onomatopoeia, personification and simile.

4 Cootie Catchers - for multiple lesson practice or to allow for differentiation.

  • Cootie Catcher #1 - questions to learn the figurative language terminology.
  • Cootie Catcher #2 - listening to a sentence and determining type of figurative language used
  • Cootie Catcher #3 - open-ended - students give an example of the type of figurative language.
  • Cootie Catcher #4 - open-ended - students design their own "show what they know" cootie catcher
  • A quarter-fold booklet with the poetry terms and examples for students to use during play.

Students will play on their own or with a partner to learn figurative language and quiz each other in a game format. Trade partners to get more practice over several days until students master the terminology.
