This product includes a one–page script on FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE and a one-page script template of the same script. The template leaves blank lines for teachers and students to complete with their own ideas for lines of dialogue. The initial script is one that can serve as an example for the teacher to guide students in filling in the template, but it may, of course, be the script of choice.
This script and template involve students in reading and reviewing (and possibly creating!) basic examples of a simile, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, idiom, and alliteration.
This script is written for solo speakers with many parts for ALL so that teachers can use it with a whole class. Reading and rehearsing the script provides an example of how figurative language can improve one boring sentence. The script also offers a way of increasing reading fluency and engaging students in a dramatic approach to learning facts. Students enjoy creating and performing gestures and sound effects where indicated in the stage directions. And—because it is a script—they do not mind reading and re-reading the information. This Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre script is one of many I have created with students and teachers across the United States.
