This powerpoint is a review of figurative language: similes, metaphors, onomatopoeia, alliteration, and personification.
It can be used as a formative assessment to check students understanding and ability to identify figurative language words and phrases. With each slide students will identify words and phrases on a white board or on paper. Using a structure like showdown will ensure that all students are engaged. To make this a higher level thinking activity, you could have students use the words and phrases is a sentence or explain the meaning.
The last 5 slides provide students with the opportunity to write their own sentences using figurative language. Students can share their sentences with the class or a partner. This could also be used as an assessment grade.
