This is a figurative language unit to include in your centers to help teach kids to recognise and use Simile! There are 32 individual task Cards, a poster (or anchor chart), a tracking/recoding sheet and answer sheets.
The poster has pictures, examples and explanation about Simile.
The tasks are also supported with pictures, examples in context, activities including writing and identifying simile.
Understanding simile is a huge step to improving reading comprehension and writing.
Once a student understands and becomes familiar with figurative language, he/she will be able to include examples in writing tasks successfully and confidently. This knowledge also improves comprehension, making students aware that literal meanings aren't always right.
This is a great unit for ESL students and adults, teaching the usage ideas.
Although there are 32 task cards, you don't need students to complete all at once, I find they understand quickly and deliberately use simile when writing. This seems to be one of the easiest figurative tools for students to understand and remember to use.
