Figurative language is an amazing way for any young author to impress a reader whether it be a teacher, a peer, for a state test, or for a college application. SMART is an acronym used in my classroom as a checklist. It assures that figurative language is used in the introduction of every narrative. This habit will flourish throughout the years as new literary skills are introduced.
