Understanding and utilizing similes and metaphors is an important concept to any writer. This color poem activity will ask your students to write poems about a specific color. They will then use similes and/or metaphors to describe the color.
There are two different types of color poems presented in this packet. One focuses on writing similes and the other focuses on writing metaphors. By separating both, students can get practice in each. They can be combined to create one, longer poem or two separate poems. It is completely up to you!
I love the idea of using paint chips for the final product! It creates a nice visual display for your classroom and is something unique that will motivate students to produce high- quality work. However, there is no need to do so.
