Product Description

Distance Learning for Speech Therapy. These worksheets could also be used for social skills online groups, teachers, special education teachers, home schooling parents.

*********************************************************************************************************

These foldable books will work well for at-home learning for either therapy or to be sent home for home practice.

They can be used the following ways:

- If you are creating home practice programs, provide a foldable book or two to parents weekly to continue to practice social skills with their children for home practice.

- For independent home practice, provide foldable book sheets to the student (get them to print) and ask them to fill in the book, color it in and fold it (with help from Mum/Dad!)

Temporary Terms of Use for COVID 19: Teachers, speech pathologists and other professionals may distribute these worksheets over the internet to their students as long as the site is password protected. In other words, you may distribute it to your own students but may not put it on the internet where it could be publically found and downloaded. You may email them to your students or their parents, too.

This resource should suffice in itself as a distance learning resource to target social skills. However, if you would like anything altered or changed to best suit you, you are more than welcome to email me at mistyinglis11@gmail.com and I can edit/alter the resource to best suit you and your current needs.

Your students will get lots of indirect language decryption practice with these 10x foldable books! Each book features a situation relatable to elementary students, where the student must identify the true meaning behind an indirect phrase/request. They can then colour in the pictures, cut out the book, fold it and take it home!

This is also a wonderful activity to send home for home practice as it is so straight forward!

Minimal prep - just print and use. NO staples required, just scissors, coloured pencils and hands!

Note: I've listed this as for grades 1-4, but please your judgement. It will completely depend on the child and their difficulties (E.g. some older students will benefit too - please look at the preview to help you decide).

Understanding indirect language can be very challenging for some students, e.g. "Do you have the time?" may be responded with "yes" with no follow up! Some students do not pick up on what others are politely saying or requesting indirectly. This resource is created to help students practice understanding it in social contexts.

Regular education teachers, special education teachers, SLPs, or other support professionals could all benefit from using these task cards with their students.

*These books can be used for an individual, a small group or a class*

Individual ideas:

- Use making a book as a ‘side activity’ during a board game or other therapy game!

- Use making a book as a sole therapy activity to teach indirect requests and comments.

Small group and/or classroom ideas:

- Give each student a book and encourage them to make it and fill in the answers. Go around the room and ask the students to describe their situation and give the answers they wrote down. If you print all books, there will be double ups (at least once), but the answers may be very different and could spark some interesting conversations!

Love this and want to look further into teaching this concept? Try the Indirect Language task cards where students will practice understanding and USING indirect language!
