This activity is a great way to incorporate critical thinking into your instruction!
Figurative Language Sudoku is a puzzle that requires students to match sentences with the type of figurative language being used. Much like the classic game of sudoku, the entire puzzle must work which incorporates the critical thinking! Although a sentence may be correctly matched with a term, it doesn't mean it is in the correct place within the puzzle! The puzzle's format adds a level of complexity to this activity because there are terms and sentences along the outer edge that will not be used.
Just print this puzzle and cut along the lines to create nine puzzle pieces! Don't forget to keep one intact to use as your answer key!
The following types of figurative language are used in this activity: simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, personification, idiom, and hyperbole.
This activity can be used as an individual activity or completed in small groups.
