Description
Figurative language can be confusing for children. Try out these figurative language idioms task card activities to make learning about idioms fun and easier to understand. It includes idioms, idiom meanings, and idiom examples.
This fun figurative language idioms activity includes 48 sets of idioms task cards, a blank page for adding other idioms, and a back cover page (optional).
These figurative language task cards come in groups of three. The lemon is the idiom, the pitcher is the meaning, and the glass is an example of the idiom in a sentence.
Here are some idioms task cards activities that may be fun to use.
Idioms Task Cards Memory
Mix the cards up and turn the cards upside down on the floor or a table. Work with a partner to try and find the 3 cards that go together. (For younger children, choose only a few idiom sets at a time.)
Idioms Task Cards Match Up
Mix up the cards and hand out one lemon, one pitcher, and one glass to each student. (If there are enough cards, each student can have 2 of each set.) One student reads out an idiom. Whoever has the meaning and the sentence hands them in. The person who had the sentence reads the next idiom.
Continue until all sets are matched or time is up.
