Understanding figurative language can help students…
* improve reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension skills
* build their vocabulary by learning new words and meanings
* develop an appreciation for word relationships, and nuances in word meanings
*Figurative language is all about changing the literal meaning. (It is all about the nuance.) This is an important language and social skill.
The task cards can be printed in color or grayscale and can be laminated and used again and again. Simply print and cut along the guidelines. It works well to keep them in a baggie. Another option is to hole-punch a corner of each card and put them all on a ring. The answer key is typed into 2 “task cards.” This makes it easy to leave in the center for self-checking and for task card storage. Keep the answers with the task cards!
