Help your middle school students understand elements of figurative language with this set of 24 task cards. Each card features a passage from a famous work of young adult literature, along with a prompt asking students to identify and/or explain the device's function.
A recording sheet and an answer key are included in both Word and PDF formats (the task cards themselves are a PDF). These cards work well as a paired, partnered, or group activity. Print, cut, and laminate the cards to make them last longer. A copy of the task cards without numbers is also included.
Use these task cards as quizzes, bell-ringers, exit slips, group work, test prep review, or as a class activity. The cards can also be used as an emergency lesson plan for a substitute teacher.
