I have been doing my Figurative Language in Popular Songs activity in my classroom for a few years now and they kids love it!
I decided that I needed to do a new version so we can have a fun review at the end of the year.
Students will explore six different types of figurative language in classic and popular song lyrics.
Figurative Language Covered:
There are twelve songs that include a variety of classic to mostly currently songs. At the top of each song page I have included the types of figurative language included in the song.
What I do in my classroom is give each student a copy of the lyrics and then play the song.
While the song is playing, I ask students to try and find the lines that exemplify the figurative language in each and highlight the squares next to the line with the same color as the figurative language at the top. I wanted to change up the sheet a little and save time so they are not writing the words over and over or asking me to spell onomatopoeia 100 times!
After the song is over, we go over what the kids found as a whole group.
A suggested answer key is included.
I have a word document if needed: email@example.com after purchase!
