Product Description
This PowerPoint explains the difference between figurative and literal language. I used this with my fourth grade class to introduce the different types of language and to help distinguish what makes a phrase either figurative or literal. There are a lot of practice exercises toward the end of the slide show to help the students practice. I had to students come up to the smart board and circle whether the phrase was figurative or literal on slide 12. On slides 13 - 16, we worked as a class to read through each paragraph and marked each sentence as figurative or literal. I also included the cards that I made for the students to use for more independent practice. I printed the cards on colored paper and cut them out for each group of students.
