If you are bright and curious, this book is especially for you.
At some point, we have all asked questions like, "Do I have to learn this? But why? Am I ever going to use this?"
By addressing these questions in this book, I have tried to connect the seemingly random subjects in school to show you the bigger picture of your life and your world. And by thinking and answering these questions, you get to interpret what that picture looks like, just like connecting the dots in a connect-the-dot puzzle.
This book is divided into three sections. The first section, How, deals with concepts in thinking and learning that are fundamental to all humans. The second section, What, deals with subjects you learn in school from language and math to art and sports. The final section, Why, attempts to answer the question, "Why do you learn what you learn?"
Learning is lifelong. Learning for the sake of learning keeps you from standing still. Sometimes learning becomes even richer when you ask, Why? Why learn this? What comes next? Use this book as a starting point in exploring your world. You can discuss the topics with friends and the adults in your life to ponder, enjoy, and ultimately, figure out!
A quick note to parents, educators, and other adults:
The questions and topics presented in this book are intended to prompt discussions with young learners. Big leaps in content have been made to provide quick summaries. You can move from them to greater and greater depths in any subject that fascinates both adult and child. Remember nothing should stop you from answering any of the questions posed here. We are never too old to learn!
