First Day in Math Class Activity
Students must apply order of operation skills to create expressions that answer 10 basic "back to school" or "all about me" questions.
It might be a good idea to remind them how to tackle problems with multiple operations by completing the example at the top of the page together with them on the board.
Students put their answers to the 10 questions in the "Answer Key" at the bottom of the page and then attempt to create expressions for their answers.
The second page has "Order of Operations" cards that can be cut out and given to each student (five per page)
I'm going to try this on the first day with my 7th and 8th grade students. I am going to complete one for myself first, and make a copy for each group to use as an example and so they can learn a little about me .... we'll see how it goes!
