Hello! Thank you for looking at the description for ‘Figuring Out Fall’ to Develop Verbal Problem Solving, Inferening and Defining Figurative Language Terms in Context.
These lessons were designed to help develop verbal problem solving skills, the ability to inference and to determine meaning from context when presented with figurative language term. This lesson was created specifically for student requiring language development in the third/fourth through eighth grades.
This packet contains three lessons around a fall theme.
Lesson 1 SLIDES –3-8 (black and white SLIDES 26-31) For this activity, there are 24 social scenario cards that pose a problem for students to solve by making an inference. The scenarios are in color because I find it helpful to keep track of completed scenarios, however, I included a black and white set at the end of the packet
Lesson 2 – SLIDES -9-16 (BINGO Boards Slides 17-24) In this activity, there are 32 scenario cards that contain a figurative language term in context. Students can either read or listen to the scenario and determine the meaning of the figurative language term. The terms are highlighted and in bold, however, copies can be printed in black and white. For this lesson, when the students are able to define the word in context or formulate his/her own sentence containing a figurative language term, they can fill in a space on their BINGO board after the scenario is read. (BINGO boards are used as incentive and it can be open-ended regarding your specific goal(s).
Lesson 3 – SLIDE 25 – This is a one page board set up for students to respond to What Would You Do If… all themed around autumn problems or scenarios. For this lesson, I have students interact and respond with each other and then color in the boxes once they have answered.
