My students have the hardest time with apostrophes for some reason. I dread teaching apostrophes (along with point of view) every. single. year.
I decided to try a few different approaches this year.
One of those approaches was to choose a combination of fiction and nonfiction paragraphs. I then went through and placed boxes before and after every word that ended in S. Students have to determine not only which words need apostrophes, but also if it should go between or at the end of the S.
This activity worked remarkably well! It it VERY rare that I have students placing apostrophes on EVERY SINGLE WORD that ends in S anymore.
Happy apostrophe teaching!
