Your students will be scrambling to play "Fill the Candy Bag”, a cover-the-product game of solving multiplication facts using strategies. Rather than spouting out a memorized answer, students will have to "prove" their answer by using a strategy: Use a number line, make groups, make an array, or use repeated addition. This activity contains 3 different game boards, 3 sets of matching dice for those boards, and strategy cards.
This is a great game for small group instruction and can be placed in your math station/center afterward. Students get repeated practice with their facts as well as opportunities to practice all of these strategies. This candy themed activity is sure to be a winner!
Directions for Play:
Roll the dice.
Take a strategy card from the face-down pile.
Multiply the two numbers on the dice using the strategy on the card. Show your work on paper or white board.
If player answers with the correct product, place a marker (counter or cube) on the product on the house.
The player with the most products covered wins.
Additional items needed to play the game:
Pencil and paper OR white board and dry-erase marker
2 colors of cubes (16 each color) OR 2-color counters (32)
