I knew when I was put in charge of creating a Film and Novel class that I would have a hard time discussing the movies with students if they didn't understand what I was looking for or what I wanted to teach them.
I decided to make a list of words I thought would be important for the class. I did not make a list of every film term, and there might be a few I could have changed over the years, but it's a good list tied into several good quizzes. The best part of this download, however, is probably the revised and re-revised list of video clips (Youtube, mostly) I used to show the vocabulary in action.
The quizzes are great if you're going to use Quizstar and the included codes. However, I provide versions without photos for you to edit. 42 words and four 10-question quizzes.Links to videos for practically every word.
The definitions are a mix of several sources, including what made sense to our class. Yes, you can change things, and you might need to alter some words or videos, but if you are going to teach a Film class, or have been teaching a film class without a vocabulary segment, you will want this as a starter pack for the class.
While my students may never have moved past loving super hero movies, at least they began to understand what the filmmakers were doing in those films to manipulate their emotions. It will be up to the students to figure out how and when to use what they learn, but that's always the case.
