This is my complete film studies course, adapted for younger students or more conservative school environments (R-rated content replaced with PG/G-rated content, plus additional updates and improvements): 427 slides and 152 film clips accessible via the web (the password is on the last slide). Topics include: camera distance, camera angles, the history of the movies, lighting and color, camera movement, film genres, movie musicals, composition, lenses and focus, film comedies, editing, sound design, auteur theory, and particular films. PowerPoint versions of the slides are also available (just email me after purchase for them due to their large size). As you can see, this is offered at a substantial discount over purchasing all of the individual units for $107 (all of which are also available, should you prefer to go that route).
This course is an appropriate length for an every day semester course or full year alternate day course. I used to call this the "middle school edition," but have realized that was a confusing title. The course has not been simplified; the biggest difference is the replacement of R-rated films (for the full length films) and clips that included excessive violence, sexuality, or bad language. In addition, I have made additions and improvements throughout the course.
I know the price is high, but this was the result of countless hours of work, plus, think of how much easier the course will be to teach without having to juggle hundreds of DVDs! Buyers will also have access to all future updates or additions to the film clips.
The course covers Modern Times, The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain, Rear Window, Psycho, Rebel Without a Cause, Some Like it Hot, Rocky, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., and Empire of the Sun (video of these complete films is not included). The course does include video clips (accessible via password) from the following films to illustrate the various techniques and concepts: The Fellowship of the Ring, Star Wars, The LEGO Movie, How to Train Your Dragon, Forrest Gump, Shrek, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Zootopia, Vanilla Sky, Pulp Fiction, The Angry Birds Movie, The Princess Bride, Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat, The Kiss, A Trip to the Moon, The Great Train Robbery, Battleship Potemkin, The Untouchables, The Jazz Singer, The Tramp, Easy Street, The Immigrant, Mildred Pierce, Manhattan, Amadeus, Hairspray, Do the Right Thing, Pleasantville, Amélie, Corpse Bride, Gone with the Wind, Touch of Evil, West Side Story, The Shining, Goodfellas, Kill Bill, The Polar Express, Gold Diggers of 1933, On the Town, An American in Paris, The Sound of Music, Hair, The Little Mermaid, Moulin Rouge, Sweeney Todd, The Muppets, Frozen, Citizen Kane, The Searchers, Rear Window, Moonrise Kingdom, Vertigo, The Graduate, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Conversation, Jaws, Brazil, The Good Dinosaur, Safety Last, The Circus, A Night at the Opera, The Naughty Nineties, Dr. Strangelove, Young Frankenstein, Annie Hall, Animal House, Caddyshack, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Anchorman, Mean Girls, Walk Hard, The Man with the Movie Camera, Marie Antoinette, Rocky, Silence of the Lambs, The Player, The Godfather, Talladega Nights, Rent, The Sixth Sense, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Great Gatsby, and Eraserhead, as well as many many documentary clips about film making.
As you can see from my Q&A, ratings, and reviews, teachers love my film units and are very happy with my customer service. I hope this makes you feel secure in your purchase.
