For this test, students write two essays. All students write on the first topic and then have their choice of one more from a list of four options. The first prompt is based on the definition of the literary term "naturalism." Your students may already be familiar with this term (as it is often incorporated into the study of this novel) but if they aren't, it's not a problem since a detailed definition of the term is included in the prompt.
Regardless of ability level, if your students have read and discussed the book, they will find that this--and the other four prompts--offer an inspiring challenge, one that invariably produces essays they--and you--will be proud of.
Thanks for considering Tim's Tool Box.
