Are you tired of students asking you near the end of the semester, "What do I have to make on the final to pass this class?!" I was, so I created a Final Grade Calculation Tool for them.
It is an Excel Spreadsheet where the student can enter in their grade for the first eight weeks and what they are currently making the second eight weeks to determine what they have to make on the final to make an A, B, or C in the class.
The spreadsheet is calculated with the following percentages:
1st 8 weeks - 40% final grade
2nd 8 weeks - 40% final grade
Final (or EOCT) - 20% final grade
I've used this with my 9th lit course, which has an EOCT. This test is given a couple weeks before the end of the semester; I still take grades after the EOCT. Because of this, I created another sheet where the student can input their 1st 8 weeks grade and their EOCT grade to determine what they have to make the 2nd 8 weeks to make an A, B, or C in the class.
If you are not Excel savvy and need help adjusting the percentages, just let me know!
