These cards are great for teaching and assessing what students understand about the call number system in your library. You can use them for partners when they're learning they call number system or for individuals when assessing. You can even allow students to make cards for each other by giving them their own VisaVie or whiteboard maker and having them pick out a call number the library to locate. Endless possibilities!
Print and laminate (recommended, not required) the amount of cards you need first. Then use a VisaVie or whiteboard marker to write various call numbers from your library. You can differentiate by focusing on one section for younger or struggling students and use more complex nonfiction numbers for older students. To make these more durable, print on card stock paper. I have gone a step further and glued these down to an additional contrasting color of cardstock before laminating. This can help with differentiating. For example, all of the red-backed cards are from the Everybody books. All of the blue-backed cards are advanced. Etc.
One last idea... print these on regular paper. Write in some call numbers from a section and have students cut out and order them. Like I said, endless possibilities! ;)
