Product Description

Fraction Task Cards

Find a Common Denominator Using Equivalent Fractions

I'm currently working on a series for adding fractions with unlike denominators. (I've finished! Find the bundle here: Add and Subtract Fractions with Unlike Denominators Bundle) I have my students begin by finding the Least Common Multiple and then they use that to find the common denominator. I've been referring a lot of my students to this set of task cards. I find that they are doing the other steps correctly but really need to practice applying what they know about equivalent fractions when given a specific denominator to use. I hope you'll find these as helpful as I have.

These task cards can be used as an early finisher, as a scoot game, or as a math center.

Students will find the least common multiple of two or three numbers.

Included:

30 task cards

Instruction and Hint task cards

Two recording sheets

Vocabulary Posters (can be shown on interactive white board or printed)

Objective Poster

Organizational Tips

A recording sheet to track student progress

Number and Operations—Fractions

5.NF.1

Use equivalent fractions as a strategy to add and subtract fractions.

1. Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)
