Description

The Common Core Practice Standard 3 asks for students to “construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.” Error analysis is a great way to do this. Present students with problems that are solved incorrectly, have them determine what the error is and provide the correct solution.

This template allows me to do this quickly and at any point within the unit that I am teaching. You can write or type the incorrect solution on the template in the space provided. (Hint: I like to use the common errors that I see my students making on homework/classwork exercises). The template already includes questions to help students identify the error(s), and correct the problem. This is a word document so you can edit it to meet your needs. I usually have students work in pairs or groups of three. This is also a great exercise for think-pair-share.
