This activity supports the Georgia Math Frameworks Unit 1 as well as any curricula that teaches number sense.
In this activity, students use cubes to build a series of four towers according to your directions. Then, using patterns, they will construct the fifth tower.
Students will count the number of cubes in each tower, connect the towers to make one big one, and count the total number of cubes used. Finally, they will decompose the number by counting back to zero as they take apart the tower.
Four separate tasks are included as well as a recording sheet (I print mine back to back).
In addition to the standards listed, the Standards for Mathematical Practice are also addressed.
My students love any activity with building involved, so this one is a crowd pleaser!
