Practice finding fiction books using call numbers.
Get students moving with this authentic learning activity.
There are three types of cards: 1) picture books, 2) fiction chapter books and 3) books in a series/set. Print them on three colors of cardstock (so they can be quickly sorted if they are mixed up), cut them up and placed them in three baskets. Students have to find one book of each type and record the author and title of the book on the response sheet (to hold them accountable and keep them on track). Pump them up about the big challenge and give them a bookmark and a sticker for each challenge they complete.
It can be used as an activity following instruction on call numbers, a center activity or an assessment.
