Product Description

This PDF contains a 2-page assignment for students to practice finding factor pairs, common factors, and the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of two numbers using the "horseshoe method." There are 8 problems in total with 2 numbers being compared in each problem. A key to the activity is included.

I have found that using this method helps students not to forget factor pairs as they work toward the 'middle' of the factor pairs list as they move around the horseshoe one pair of factors at a time.

My 6th grade students seem to prefer this method versus making a table or just a simple list. It helps them to make the connections too because they can see larger factors that might helps them to determine other divisible numbers and/or patterns in the numbers.
