Finding Mean, Median, Mode and Range Game
This two player game was designed to practice finding the mean, median, mode and range of a set up numbers, but can also be played by three players or by four players by playing with a partner. Additionally this game can be used as a math center activity for two players or the attached worksheet will allow it to be used by a single student for additional practice.
This games includes 24 mean, median, mode and range cards and four different levels of number cards (see below for details). One player selects a mean, median, mode or range card. The card tells the players what they are finding and the number of cards to use. For example, the card might say, “Find the mean of 5 numbers.” The second player then draws the number of cards specified from the number cards pile. So for our example, the second player draws 5 number cards. Both players complete the task and compare answers. Points are awarded to each player with a correct answer.
Levels for Number Cards:
Level 1 - contains numbers less than 20
Level 2 - contains numbers between 20 and 40
Level 3 - contains numbers between 40 and 60
Level 4 – contains positive and negative numbers less than 20
Print off several sets of the games, pair up the students and spend some time playing the game as a whole class activity. Instructions are also included to set up as a math center activity that can be played by 2 (or 3) players or by as individual students. Additionally, I have provided several suggestions for differentiated instruction.
