This packet includes 95 questions consisting of fill in the blank, short answer, and matching questions in addition to one question that requires the student to write a paragraph. Also 3 additional Extra Credit questions are included that may require additional research depending on your students’ current knowledge. All questions focus on general science topics such as symbiotic relationships, food webs, habitats, ecosystems, reproduction, species classification and identification, medical conditions, adaptations, evolution, and numerous specific oceanography/marine biology topics (zones of the ocean, identification and descriptions of marine organisms, etc.) and much more. General science vocabulary is included throughout the movie and highlighted through this handout. This lesson easily correlates with numerous state Science standards as well as this Common Core State Standard: Writing Standard for Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects 6-12 (standard #4): Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
This handout includes an answer key for every question and 95 questions were created so that each one can count as one point with the essay questions counting 5 points to make grading as easy as possible.
Make your life easier by purchasing this handout because you will have two or more (depending on how long each of your class periods are) days worth of science lesson plans. The movie is 100 minutes long and should be stopped occasionally to allow students to record their answers as well as read the upcoming questions so they know what to watch for. This lesson should take at least 130 minutes. All you do is print and your lesson is done!
This handout provides a review for information already learned in class and also provides a foundation for new information that will be learned. Students LOVE watching this movie and can now learn from something they already enjoy doing—watching a great movie.
