For this activity, students measure teacher-selected objects found around the room using a ruler. After measuring, the students draw the shape using the grid, fill in the objects side lengths, and add up the sides to calculate the perimeter.
In the classroom, I use this activity by creating shapes with tape on the floor. The students work in groups traveling from station to station in order to measure, add, and sketch.
