At the start of the lesson students recap finding the factors of a number. In the main part they learn how to use primes to break a number down into its prime factors. At the end of the lesson students are set three challenges of increasing difficultly to assess against the learning objectives.
Differentiated Learning Objectives
All students should be able to calculate the prime factors of a number.
Most students should be able to write a number as the product of its prime factors.
Some students should be able to use prime factors to solve long multiplication problems
