This product is designed to get your students off on the right foot as you introduce them to finding and citing text evidence. Our young students need to learn that each time they make a statement about their reading, they need to support their statement with evidence from the text. This color-the-evidence activity gets your students ready for the lengthier text evidence-supported answers they will be expected to answer without turning off these students who are not ready to provide such answers in writing just yet.
Crayons, colored pencils, or markers will work for marking the text according to each key. The answer to each question is stated explicitly in the text. I have used this activity as independent work, homework, and guided reading work (as some of the text is challenging for some of my readers). Students love these short, spooky Halloween stories, and they are the perfect no-prep skill builders for the time leading up to Halloween that already presents a difficult planning period! Stories included are When the Wind Blows, The Wisdom of Dogs, The Man Who Sold Very Good Hot Dogs, and 11 others!
