Product Description
This product is designed to get your students off on the right foot as you introduce them to finding and citing text evidence. Our young students need to learn that each time they make a statement about their reading, they need to support their statement with evidence from the text. This color-the-evidence activity gets your students ready for the lengthier text evidence-supported answers they will be expected to answer without turning off these students who are not ready to provide such answers in writing just yet.
Crayons, colored pencils, or markers will work for marking the text according to each key. The answer to each question is stated explicitly in the text. I have used this activity as independent work, homework, and guided reading work (as some of the text is challenging for some of my readers), and this year, I will be sending it home as part of my students' ELA summer work requirements. While they will also have a required book to read, this packet is going to double as text evidence practice and a springboard into further summer reading. Once they read the descriptions of the 20 books that are highlighted in this packet, they will want to read those as well! Each activity serves as a mini "book trailer". Books included are Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, My Best Friend, A Couple of Boys have the Best Week Ever, and Duck! Rabbit!, just to name a few!
