This file contains the lesson plan and two powerpoint presentations for a short unit I created about finding science in the real world. It begins by introducing students to concept mapping (in the first powerpoint presentation) and has them create their own concepts maps on what they believe scientists are. Then students will read various excerpts from scientists and discussing them (a list of suggested works is given). Then students are asked to write their own excerpts about something in the world around them. This will lead in to the other powerpoint presentation which gives examples of science in everyday life. Lastly students will be asked to create their own powerpoint slide on their choice of something scientific in their world. I had one student present their slide every Friday. I found that students enjoyed finding science in the world around them. They also enjoyed creating a powerpoint slide to share with the class (student's either emailed me the slide or saved it on a flash drive to bring into class).
