Use this packet to teach students to answer response to literature questions with textual evidence-- in a fun way! This packet can be used with any reading selection.
First, students will learn how to read for textual evidence and write strong answers.
Next, students will turn to the page in their packet where they will create a foldable organizer with flaps containing textual evidence sentence openers. Students will write textual evidence under the flaps.
After that, students will read their answers aloud to the judge (teacher) and jury (students). The jury will listen for textual evidence in the answers.
Finally, the jury will determine the verdict– Was there enough textual evidence to support the case? The class will help one another strengthen their answers.
If you really want to make it fun, bring in a mallet as your gavel, and wear a graduation robe-- instant judge attire! Bring in some ties, suit coats, or briefcases for the students to wear/use as they argue their cases!
Students will love keeping this packet as reference throughout the year. Great for test prep!
