A silly way for students to measure items around the room, compare data, and realize that we HAVE to have a standard of measurement in life :)
-Give each student a piece of straw (cut randomly)
-Tell them to measure items around the room using this piece of straw
-Ask them to be as accurate as possible!
Then...have fun watching students run around the room measuring using straw...and thinking they are getting wrong answers because others have different results! Come back, and have them trace their foot. Cut it out, then repeat measurements.
-Conclude with a discussion on why we all got different answers...and what could we do to all get the SAME answers??
