These area exit slips (ticket to leave) are used a quick assessment to determine whether or not students can find the area of a rectangle. I like to use these quick ongoing assessments to determine what concepts to teach during small group math instruction, what type of homework needs to be used for additional practice and how much time to devote to a specific skill. I like this because then I am not waiting until an end of unit assessment to discover that half the class didn't understand a specific concept. Also, I tend to get behind on providing feedback on tests and this is a great way for me to give students immediate feedback so they have the time they need to correct any misconceptions. I make several copies of exit slips, cut them out and put them in a baggie so that I can quickly access these tests. Since it is only one problem in each bag, I write the answer on the outside of the bag. I have a baggie of exit slips for many different concepts.
