This is an activity that works great for helping students find a theme in piece of literature and goes beyond just being told a theme. Students must think as they create their own theme on their observations in the book. This activity will help to make sure students know what theme is and be able to provide evidence from where it came from. I am always impressed by the insight and themes that my students give as we share our creations! It also helps students connect literature with their everyday world! It is a great way to reflect on a story and pull out insight.
Students will need to be pre-taught what a theme is and the difference between a theme and a subject! Remember to model with this activity!
